So...curious why Eric Clapton and Robbie Robertson shelved the album they started working on in the spring of 2008? There was speculation as to what happened, including them not seeing eye-to-eye on its production. But, according to Robertson's son Sebastian, Clapton wanted to spend more time with his family. Clapton does make an appearance on Robertson's fifth solo album, which he's currently working on.

Once again an attempt will be made to break the Guinness World Record for the largest guitar ensemble. The promoter of West Fest, the free San Francisco concert on October 25th celebrating the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, is asking three-thousand guitar players to simultaneously play Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze." The current record was set last year when just over two-thousand guitarists came together in Concord, California to play Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." It has just been reported that Robert Plant was involved in a car accident on July 2nd in northwest London. Plant's Audi A-8 collided with a Mercedes S-L 300 driven by Richard Grant, who tells the Telegraph, "I went to the hospital for five hours and luckily there were no broken bones, but I was badly bruised on the arm and had whiplash. My Mercedes is smashed up and I'm not in a good way." 34 years ago next week, August 4th, 1975, Plant and his family were seriously injured in a car accident on vacation on the Mediterranean island of Rhodes, forcing Led Zeppelin to postpone their fall U-S tour.

The latest edition in the Madden video game franchise features a mixture of hard and classic rockers. Madden NFL '10 includes classic rock: namely Black Sabbath's "Paranoid," Iron Maiden's "Aces High," and Judas Priest's "Painkiller" Madden NFL '10 is due out August 14th.

Steely Dan starts a run of eight shows at New York's Beacon Theater tonight. The first show will feature Aja in its entirety, followed by Gaucho tomorrow, The Royal Scam on Friday and an Internet request night on Saturday.

No one's quite sure why she's the one making the announcement, but on her Twitter page Joe Perry's wife Billie says that Steven Tyler no longer has the same manager as the rest of Aerosmith. She writes, "the band still have the honorable Howard Kaufman/Trudy Green," who have managed Aerosmith for 10 years. Tyler, however, is now with the Union Entertainment Group, which represents such bands as Nickelback and Cinderella.

Elton John will be the honorary captain of the New England Patriots when they play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 25th as the NFL returns to London...which is ironic, given that Elton lives in Atlanta. Elton is good friends with Patriots' owner Bob Kraft. Elton and Billy Joel brought their Face-to-Face tour to Kraft's Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts this past Saturday.

The Beatles have posted 32 clips of songs on Amazon from their upcoming remastered catalog, which is available September 9th. The 30-second snippets are from Please, Please Me, Revolver and The White Album. The Beatles Rock Band video game, in stores September 9th, has its own Facebook page where you can see the game's opening movie graphics.

It was reported over the weekend that album designer and photographer Tom Wilkes died of a heart attack late last month. The onetime art director for A&M Records was responsible for the covers of Neil Young's Harvest, Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen, Janis Joplin's Pearl, George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, The Concert for Bangla Desh, the orchestral rendition of Tommy and the original cover of The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet. Wilkes was 69.

Sammy Hagar will open his third Cabo Wabo Cantina in the fall, this one inside the Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. It will be a two-story, 15-thousand square-foot restaurant and nightclub that will replace Trader Vic's.

Today's the anniversary of the birth of The left-wing Oklahoma folksinger, guitarist and prolific songwriter ("This Land Is Your Land," "So Long, It's Been Good to Know You"), a primary inspiration on Bob Dylan and the father of singer Arlo Guthrie, died of Huntington's chorea on October 3rd, 1967 at 55. David Carradine played him in a 1976 bio pic, Bound for Glory. Guthrie was born on this date in 1912.

A new Beatles book featuring all the artwork from their albums will be released this fall. Box of Vision is a 200-page LP-sized book that includes the artwork and liner notes for the Fab Four's original albums, including the US versions of their early albums and later releases such as Love and Let It Be...Naked. Box of Vision also features room for fans to store the CD versions of the albums inside the book. The Beatles' website is now streaming an excerpt of the new mini-documentary about the making of the album Revolver. The mini-doc is one of 13 short films that are featured on each of the re-mastered albums due out on September 9th.

Randy Bachman is asking people on his Twitter page to subscribe to his YouTube page, promising to upload high def concert footage weekly.

The Logo network will air a documentary paying tribute to Stevie Nicks as the premiere episode of its New Now Next Icons series -- which honors artists who've become gay icons. The show airs on Sunday night.

Despite rumors that the show is sold out, tickets are still available at the Coveleski Stadium box office, all Ticketmaster locations including Orbit Music / Mishawaka, Super Sounds / Elkhart, Karma Records / Plymouth and Wooden Nickle Records / Fort Wayne. Gates open at 5:00 pm on Saturday. The opening act is The Wiyos (check out the interview in the Sunday June 28 South Bend Tribune). Next up will be John Mellencamp, in his only Indiana concert appearance this summer. Bob Dylan will appear after Mellencamp. Then since this show is the 36th Annual Willie Nelson 4th of July picnic, Willie Nelson will close the show. At around 10:45 pm, a spectacular 4th of July fireworks will follow Willie's performance.

The concert will be general admission, with the choice of selecting a chair seat in the baseball seating area, or sitting on a blanket on the infield or outfield grass in front of the stage. Lawn chairs will not be permitted in the stadium. This will be a non - smoking show. Professional cameras and audio and video equipment of any kind will not be allowed into the stadium. No large backpacks will be admitted, and no outside food or beverage will be permitted.

This could well be the biggest rock concert in South Bend history, with three legendary singers, songwriters and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members, and promises to be a memorable evening at Coveleski Stadium.

And Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members, legendary Southern California band The BEACH BOYS, with guest JOAN JETT, will appear at the beautiful riverside amphitheatre at Saint Patrick's Park in South Bend on Saturday August 15. Tickets are on sale now at the Morris box office, all Ticketmaster locations and www.ticketmaster.com. Kids under 12 will be admitted free to The Beach Boys concert, one per paid adult ticket.

The Beach Boys show will feature a vintage car show including vehicles from South Bend's Studebaker Museum, and will have a fireworks display after the show. Owners of classic pre 1980 cars who would like to display their cars before attending the concert, will be admitted to the Saint Patrick's Park parking area closest to the entrance to the amphitheatre starting at 4:00 pm the day of the show. Gates to the concert will open at 5:30 pm, and showtime will be 7:00 pm. Festive summer food will be offered for sale at the concert.

Summer means rock on the road: Judas Priest kicked off their tour in Indianapolis last night, and tonight U2 gets underway in Barcelona, Spain. Bob Dylan starts his summer tour with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp tomorrow in Milwaukee. Mellencamp joins them on Thursday in Illinois. Paul McCartney is getting ready for a series of stadium shows in July and August.

Despite denials from his publicist, Paul McCartney has had to reiterate that he has no plans to write or record with Bob Dylan. He told the UK Telegraph, "No, that's a newspaper thing. He just said some very complimentary things about me in some interviews and I love him. I think he's a great poet and writer, so I've always admired him. I don't rule it out... But we're not the kind of people who would ring each other up."

In other Beatle news, Ringo Starr is working on a new album. There's no title or release date yet, but the disc will feature vocal performances by Joss Stone. Ringo's last studio album was Liverpool 8, which came out last year.

Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer is the first member of the band to write his autobiography with today's publication of Hit Hard: A Story of Hitting Rock Bottom at the Top. In addition to his close to 40 years in Aerosmith, Kramer also covers his bout with anxiety, depression and substance abuse; a nervous breakdown; a near-fatal car crash and fire; and his tumultuous relationship with his father. He tells us, "The book is about me, it's not about the band... [It's] about me and my life and how I feel about things." He also talks extensively about his drug abuse, and the effect drugs had on the band.

Jazz musician Stanley Clarke, one of my favorite bass players, is 58 today. A couple of his albums helped me learn to play bass when I was a teenager. And this is the 32nd anniversary of the first Kiss Comic Book by Marvel.

Happy Birthday today to former Jackson 5 and Journey Bassist Randy Jackson. Where is he now? Anyway, he's 53. And original Beatles Bassist Stu Sutcliffe, who died at 21, would have been 69 today.

Tonight Def Leppard start their fifth consecutive summer tour which pairs them with another major classic rock act. Following past tours with Bryan Adams, Journey, Styx and R-E-O Speedwagon, Def Lep will be joined this year by Cheap Trick and Poison. Singer Joe Elliott tells us it will be an event because "we're out with two other bands that everybody knows, everybody knows most of their music and it's gonna be a good evening's entertainment." Elliott also says that this may be the last summer tour for a while.

Elton John's neighborhood is planning to name a street after its most famous musical son. The local council in the London borough of Harrow is considering such a measure. But there's no word whether we'll soon see "Elton John Avenue" or "Yellow Brick Road" in the Pinner section, where young Reg Dwight grew up and dreamed of being a soccer star.

Paul Stanley says KISS is just four days away from finishing a new studio disc. He says: "We recorded 11 tracks and it is everything I've told you. It is classic. It is all written within the band and it rocks big time! The songs, sound and playing will knock your socks off. You will all be as proud and excited as we all are. Oh...and wait till you see the cover! We are just getting started!" They are in talks to release the album, their first since 1998's Psycho Circus, exclusively through Wal-Mart.

Four of the members of Styx -- Tommy Shaw, Chuck Panozzo, Lawrence Gowan and Todd Sucherman -- were given a private tour of the White House yesterday and spent time in the Briefing Room. The press was in the room and the band posed for a few pictures and answered questions. Styx, REO Speedwagon and 38 Special are in Columbia, Maryland tonight.

NEW RELEASES:

Def Leppard release deluxe editions of their Pyromania and Adrenalize albums today. The release comes as they kickoff their tour with Cheap Trick and Poison tonight in Camden, New Jersey. Both albums have been re-mastered, with Pyromania containing a live disc of a previously unreleased 15-track show from The Forum in Los Angeles in 1983. The bonus disc for Adrenalize contains live and acoustic tracks, as well as demos.

The only performance of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band to be filmed arrives on DVD today from Shout Factory. Live in Toronto '69 is an hour-long recording in which the Lennons are backed by an all-star lineup including Eric Clapton -- who told us he was asked by John to do the show three hours before their plane left from London. Despite the short notice and only rehearsing in the airplane's first-class cabin, it proved to be a memorable show. Keyboardist Klaus Voorman and drummer Alan White round out the band, which shared the stage with some of John's musical heroes -- Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Bo Diddley.

The Pink Panther 2 is new to D-V-D and Blu-Ray today. Steve Martin returns as the famed "Inspector Clouseau." The only good news is that it comes with some classic Panther cartoons, from back when the franchise was funny.

A fairytale villain leaps from the pages of a book in the fantasy flick Inkheart, with Brendan Fraser.

Confessions of a Shopaholic stars Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) as a shopaholic with mounting debt who gets a job as a finance journalist.

TV that's gone digital includes the fifth season of the Playboy reality show The Girls Next Door and the sixth season of Reba.

Joe Perry tells a St. Louis radio station that the surgery Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford recently had was on his head after banging it getting out of a car. Perry says, "It was enough to cause a little bleeding and he had this terrible headache. Not unlike what happened to Keith Richards when he fell out of the coconut tree." Whitford has been in intensive care and is expected to be off the road for six-to-eight weeks with his guitar tech, Bobby Schneck, sitting in for him while he's on the DL. With this, Whitford is no longer the only member of the band not to suffer a serious medical malady in the last few years: Joe Perry had emergency knee surgery earlier this year. Last year, Steven Tyler checked into rehab, as well as having surgery on his knee and foot. And, before that, bassist Tom Hamilton had a bout with throat cancer and drummer Joey Kramer had shoulder surgery and a nervous breakdown.

Alice Cooper has been reunited with his carry-on bag that contained his laptop and stash of obscure horror movie D-V-Ds. The bag, which had no I-D tags on it, went missing last week when he landed in London, and was discovered in a holding area at Heathrow Airport. Cooper started a tour last night in Russia on a bill with the Scorpions, and he brought the films because of the lack of English language T-V and movie theater options.

Burton Cummings says he's finally quit smoking. He writes on his Twitter page, "No tobacco for months now. I expect to be singing like a bird this summer on stage. Expect to have much more wind. Notes are already stronger!"

Alice Cooper's long-time archivist and personal assistant Brian "Renfield" Nelson died suddenly on Friday.

Yesterday marked the 365th straight day that Judas Priest fan Jim Bartek of Cleveland listened to Priest's 2008 album, Nostradamus, in its entirety. That means he spent approximately 624 hours, or 26 days of his life, listening to the concept album. When asked why, he said, "It just grabs me... The flow of the record and the way you can just feel what the guy (Nostradamus) was going through from the way Priest play and sing it. Rob [Halford]'s vocals tell you exactly how the guy is feeling at a particular moment." Bartek says he will end the streak after seeing Priest on July 15th in Cleveland.

Guitar innovator Les Paul, born Lester Polfus, is 94 today. Slash's mother, Ola Hudson, died Friday after a long battle with lung cancer.

We posted the video of this yesterday, and here's the details: Bret Michaels suffered a broken nose during an appearance at Sunday's Tony Awards. The Poison singer had a piece of scenery fall on his head during his performance. In addition to the broken nose, Michaels needed three stitches for a cut to his lip. The injuries apparently won't impact Poison's planned package tour with Def Leppard and Cheap Trick, which gets under way later this month.

Have a chance to see Aerosmith soon? Do it: they appear to be physically falling apart. Guitarist Brad Whitford won't be on stage when their tour starts tomorrow night just outside St. Louis. Whitford will be sitting out an unknown number of dates as he recovers from what's called "recent surgery." There's no word from the Aerosmith camp on what surgery Whitford has undergone. Replacing Whitford will be Bobby Schneck, who's been a touring guitarist and tech for Green Day and Weezer.

The Who have launched a new YouTube contest celebrating the release of their two-D-V-D Maximum R-&-B Live set. Upload a video of you doing your best impression of Pete Townshend's infamous guitar windmill. The winner will receive a Fender Stratocaster signed by Townshend.

Bruce Springsteen and the Eagles' Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit make guest appearances on John Fogerty's upcoming new album The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again. The disc is a sequel to Fogerty's 1973 album Blue Ridge Rangers, and it features covers of songwriters Fogerty considers big influences. Springsteen guests on a cover of The Everly Brothers' "When Will I Be Loved," and Henley and Schmit provide harmonies on a version of Rick Nelson's "Garden Party." The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again is due out in the early fall.

Ex-Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic is running for clerk of Wahkiakum County in Washington. Novoselic's goal is to get state law I-872 repealed. That law allows candidates to declare they "prefer" a party, even if they aren't associated with that party. Novoselic wants to make sure that organizations can control who uses their name on the ballot. So he listed himself on the ballot as "prefers Grange party," which isn't a political party but a non-partisan organization.

Further proof that EVERYONE is dabbling in the Country Arts: Ted Nugent will be a presenter at the CMT Music Awards on June 16th.

Eddie Van Halen says that Van Halen -- with David Lee Roth -- will record a new album this year and hit the road next year to support it. Eddie tells Rolling Stone, "We're a true band now. It wasn't just a reunion one-off thing. I've already gone to Dave's house four or five times over the last month. I've got so much music. It's just trying to figure out what Dave's into because we haven't written together in a long time. But it's great."

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, and Yoko Ono were on hand yesterday as Microsoft unveiled some of the graphics and songs that will appear on The Beatles: Rock Band when it's launched on October 9th. Ringo asked Paul, "What do you think of the game?" when they briefly took the stage at LA's Galen Center to help kickoff this year's E3 computer and video game expo. McCartney replied, "I love it." Giles Martin, the son of Beatles' producer George Martin, is serving as music supervisor and creative producer for The Beatles: Rock Band. He announced the names of 10 of the 45 songs that will be included in the game -- "I Saw Her Standing There," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "I Feel Fine," "Taxman," "Day Tripper," Back in the USSR," "I am the Walrus," "Octopus's Garden," "Here Comes the Sun" and "Get Back."

Pearl Jam have struck a deal to sell their next studio album through Target. It's the first time they're releasing an album without a label, but Target won't be the exclusive distributor of the album, which rumored to be titled Backspacer. Pearl Jam's manager, Kelly Curtis, says they've made or are close to making deals with an online retailer, a mobile partner, a gaming company and a network of indie stores. The first single is due out late next month, with album out in the fall. The new song last night on the Tonight Show was pretty solid.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers will release an album mixing new and out-of-print material on July 18th. The Dirty Dozen includes six newly recorded tracks, three previously released songs and three long out-of-print tunes, including a cover of Chuck Berry's "Hello Little Girl."

Lynyrd Skynyrd have added Rob Zombie to the list of artists they've collaborated with. The singer-horror film director wrote on his Twitter page Sunday, "Just left studio. Recorded vocals for new Lynyrd Skynyrd track called 'Floyd.' Heavy swampy track." The track is set to appear on Skynyrd's new album God and Guns, which will be out on September 29th.

A Deep Purple double DVD hits stores today. History, Hits and Highlights chronicles the band's career from 1968-1976 and includes performances from all four line-ups of the band. The set also includes a documentary on the band during this time and previously unreleased rehearsal footage.

Early versions of "Long Time Gone," "Marrakesh Express," "Almost Cut My Hair" and "You Don't have to Cry" are featured on Crosby, Stills and Nash's new Demos collection, in stores today. The album compiles early versions of CSN and solo songs by the trio from 1968 to 1971.

If you're looking for Paul McCartney's London home on Google Street View, you're out of luck. His security detail complained to Google and it has been removed. London's Sun quotes a source who says, "He was unsettled when he heard Google users could get a 360-degree view of the property." A spokesman for Google says anyone can remove his or her house from the site by clicking a button, but adds, "Since the launch of Street View, millions have used it and the vast majority are very happy to have their house included." The house, in the St. John's Wood section of London near Abbey Road Studio, is where Macca wrote such songs as "Penny Lane," "Getting Better" and "Hey Jude." He bought the property in 1965.

Ringo Starr has been trashed by Piers Morgan, the UK journalist-turned-reality show participant. While at the Chelsea Flower Show in London last week, Morgan reportedly observed Ringo refusing to sign an autograph for an elderly woman. This didn't sit well with Morgan, who says, "Ringo was always the least talented, ugliest, jammiest member of The Beatles. We can now add the words disgusting, selfish, greedy and thoughtless to the list, too." Last year Ringo announced that he would no longer be signing things sent to him. A spokeswoman for the drummer was unavailable for comment.

Billy Joel's former drummer Liberty DeVitto has filed suit against the Piano Man seeking overdue royalties on such songs as "Uptown Girl" and "Movin' Out." DeVitto, who hasn't worked with Joel since 2005, claims he was responsible for helping to craft some of Joel's albums. His lawyer says he doesn't know how much DeVitto is owed, adding that Joel's sales are subject to an audit. Since parting ways with Joel, reportedly over money, DeVitto has worked as a studio musician and instructor. In a recent BBC Radio Two documentary celebrating his 60th birthday, Joel said that the end of his relationship with DeVitto was strictly professional. "I don't think I'll ever work with Liberty again. There are some personal issues there." Joel is on another Face-to-Face tour with Elton John right now, with a stop in Toronto tonight.

The Styx/REO/38 Special show Saturday night in Kelseyville, California was canceled after part of the Konocti Harbor Amphitheater's roof collapsed. Kevin Cronin writes on REO's website, "Tommy Shaw and I were having a relaxed, pre-show dinner when all hell broke loose... 38 Special had played a few measures into their first song when the sound of twisting metal drowned them out. Right before our eyes, the roof of the outdoor stage buckled, and the down stage right corner dropped about 10-feet above a band members' head. Quickly the band was herded off stage and the audience was cleared from the floor and into the bleachers." The show was immediately canceled and a new date will be announced. The Can't Stop Rockin' tour is in Seattle tomorrow night. Maybe they should change the name to Can't Stop Rockin' Unless It Might Kill Us tour...

Looks like that guy who named Bruce Springsteen as the other man in his divorce case may have just been going for the publicity. New Jersey man Arthur Kelly alleges that his wife Ann and Springsteen, who trained at the same gym, had an affair. But her attorney argues that Kelly made it all up for money, telling her, "True or not, the celebrity would want this to 'go away.'" Her attorney, Noel Tonneman, writes in the papers filed, "The allegations of adultery were filed for no purpose other than to harass, annoy and harm the defendant. The only purpose of filing such a pleading was to either obtain the media attention he did receive or to embarrass and/or harass the defendant."

Are Brian May and Roger Taylor already looking for someone to replace singer Paul Rodgers in Queen? May and Queen performed last week with singer Adam Lambert on American Idol, and in an interview with Rolling Stone, May says, "Roger and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there." After four years, a few tours, a studio album and live releases, Rodgers decided to leave Queen to concentrate on his solo career and a brief Bad Company reunion tour this summer.

Chickenfoot -- the new group with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith -- will perform on The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien on June 5th. That's the day their self-titled album is released exclusively at Best Buy stores. Chickenfoot performs in Cambridge, Massachusetts tonight.

List of the best Classic Rock Tours This Summer...

With Memorial Day Weekend upon us, the summer concert season has officially begun. Here's a rundown of this year's big tours and festivals.

Tours:

Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood start a 14-city tour on June 10th in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Aerosmith and Z-Z Top hook up for a tour starting June 10th in suburban St. Louis. ZZ joins them on June 21st in Virginia.
Crue Fest Two features tour namesake Motley Crue joined by Godsmack, Theory of a Dead Man and Drowning Pool.
Def Leppard, Cheap Trick and Poison hit the road June 23rd in Camden, New Jersey.
Styx, REO Speedwagon and 38 Special are currently making their way across the country.
Crosby, Stills and Nash are out on their 40th anniversary tour.
Elton John and Billy Joel are once again out on their Face-to-Face tour.
Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson are teaming up for a tour of minor league ballparks that starts July 2nd in Sauget, Illinois and runs through mid-August. Of course, that tour hits Coveleski on July 4th.
The Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic are teaming up for some late-summer amphitheater shows this year. The two Southern jam bands will hook up starting August 21st in Camden, New Jersey.

Festivals:

Tennessee's Bonnaroo Music Festival runs June 11th through the 14th and features big names Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Phish, David Byrne and Elvis Costello.
And organizers are still trying to secure a spot for a 40th anniversary Woodstock concert.

AC/DC Drummer Phil Rudd is 55. ZZ Top Bassist Dusty Hill is 60. Pete Townsend is 64.

In the summer of 2007, former Blind Faith bandmates Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood got together for a charity show in England, followed by Clapton's Crossroads benefit in Chicago. Both shows went so well that they booked three nights at Madison Square Garden in New York in February 2008 and the results are Live From Madison Square Garden, a double CD and double DVD, both in stores today. The DVD includes a documentary called The Road to Madison Square Garden, and on it Clapton says he suggested they pick each other's songs, which is how they came up with the set list.

AC/DC started their outdoor European tour last Thursday in Germany, and it didn't take long for people outside the show to complain about the noise. That happened on Friday in Munich, when more than 100 people as far as 12 miles away called police to say the show was too loud.

Finally, Craig, I've discovered the dark side of Twitter: Yoko Ono is one of the judges of the world's first interactive poetry competition, which started in London yesterday. People are asked to submit haiku-style poems on the subject of the British summer from their mobile phones, using Twitter, the free social blogging site. Haikus are a form of Japanese poetry.

Pearl Jam will be the first musical guest on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, which debuts on June 1st.

NEW RELEASES:

Paul Blart: Mall Cop is new to DVD and Blu-Ray today. Kevin James (from T-V's King of Queens) stars as mall cop who has a hostage situation when Santa's helpers turn savage. It comes with outtakes, deleted scenes, commentary, making-of specials and a digital copy of the film.

Valkyrie stars Tom Cruise in the based-in-fact attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Izzard and Terence Stamp co-star. Extras include commentary, a making-of featurette and a documentary.

My Bloody Valentine 3D is also available. The remake of the 1981 cult classic about a killer who slashes sweethearts features Jensen Ackles (from T-V's Supernatural) and Jaime King (SinCity). It comes with a 2D version of the film, commentary, deleted and extended scenes, an alternate ending, a gag reel and two making-of featurettes.

TV that's gone digital includes the first season of the HBO vampire series True Blood, the third season of Friday Night Lights and the just-ended seventh season of 24...which I wish I had followed, because everybody raved about it last night online.

The Allman Brothers Band start their 40th anniversary tour tonight with the first of two shows in Oakland, California. In addition to An Evening With... shows, they are doing six nights with the Doobies Brothers, one with The Dead, and the August through October dates will feature Widespread Panic. The tour hits Chicago in September at the Charter One Pavilion on the 2nd & 3rd.

Alice Cooper will perform at the commencement exercises for Arizona State University tomorrow in Phoenix. He'll perform his start-of-summer anthem "School's Out" backed by Runaway Phoenix. That band features his son, Dash Cooper, who will graduate from Arizona State next year. President Obama will deliver the commencement address. Cooper says, "Of all the people I've ever shared a stage with, Obama is the biggest rock star... I'd like to thank him, in advance, for changing the national anthem to 'Schools Out.'" The 1972 song will also be featured in the film I Love You Beth Cooper, which comes out in July.

A discarded lyric written by George Harrison in 1967 went on display Friday at the British Library in London. Author and Beatles biographer Hunter Davies found it while doing research for the new edition of the biography, which has just been re-published more than 40 years after its original publication. In the book's introduction, Davies writes about how he used to collect lyrics that the band tossed to the floor as garbage while recording at Abbey Road. The lyric is as follows:

I'm happy to say that it's only a dream,
When I come across people like you,
It's only a dream and you make it obscene,
With the things that you think and you do.
You're so unaware of the pain that I bear,
And jealous for what you can't do.
There's times when I feel that you haven't a hope,
But I also know that isn't true.

Red Hot Chili Pepper Anthony Kiedis received the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his support of the MusiCares Musicians Assistance Program (MAP) Fund and his devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process. In his speech, he compared giving an award to a drug addict for getting sober to "giving a man an award for running out of a burning building." He and bandmate Chad Smith, also there, as was bassist Flea, said that the Chili Peppers expect to start working together again sometime this fall for the first time since '07.

Jimmy Buffett's empire now includes Miami's pro football team. On Friday, Florida's most famous musical personality debuted a re-worded version of "Fins" as the Dolphins' fight song, and their stadium was renamed for Buffett's Landshark beer. The deal, running through year's end, doesn't involve a specific fee paid by Buffett or Anheuser-Busch. Instead, he'll make appearances on behalf of the team, possibly perform at the stadium and provide unspecified "marketing opportunities."
