Tuesday Rock Roundup

Alice Cooper is looking to raise an additional three-point-three-million dollars to fund the Solid Rock Teen Center, a seven-million-dollar, 29-thousand-square-foot youth center that will sit on the campus of Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. The Christian center will have a concert hall, recording studios, game rooms, a basketball court, a rock-climbing wall and a dance studio run by Cooper's wife, Sheryl. The center, nicknamed "The Rock," is being funded by Cooper's Solid Rock Foundation, which assists teens and children. Cooper hopes to break ground this summer.

Gene Simmons was at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday and his Family Jewels camera crew was with him. Among those who stopped to meet Simmons and his cameras were Kid Rock, Raquel Welch, Richard Petty, Jimmy Fallon and Larry Birkhead.

During his show the other night in York, England, Ray Davies told his audience that he wanted to reunite The Kinks.

Robbie Robertson has been asked to be the artistic director for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

R-E-M will hit a Vancouver, Canada recording studio this week to start work on their next album. It will be their first time working with new producer Jacknife Lee. After a few weeks in Canada, the group and Lee will pack things up and head to Ireland to work some more. The album likely won't be released until early 2008.

Tom Petty's voice will make another appearance on
King of the Hill on May 20th.

Z-Z Top will team up with The Pretenders and The Stray Cats for a series of dates this summer. A full itinerary is expected shortly, but as of now there are shows from mid-July into early August. R-E-O Speedwagon will join them on two of the dates announced so far. This is the Cats' first U-S tour in 15 years.

On Saturday, Z-Z, along with Genesis, Ozzy Osbourne and Heart will be saluted at V-H-1's second annual Rock Honors. The show will air on V-H-1 on May 24th. All four acts are set to perform at the show. Last year's Rock Honors paid tribute to KISS, Queen, Def Leppard and Judas Priest.

Yoko Ono is back on the Billboard charts. Her new single, "You're the One," is number-14 with a bullet on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. This is her fourth Top 20 dance hit, and the debut single from her album of remixes called Open Your Box. She tells us that when she heard the remixes of her songs, she was "pleased" and she "almost choked up."

While rumors in Britain persist that the star of Borat is in line to play the Freddie Mercury in a bio-pic, a spokesman for Queen tells us that "Sacha Baron Cohen has always expressed an interest in playing Freddie. But nothing further than that."
