Tuesday Rock Roundup

Happy 64th Birthday, Keith Richards!

Jason Bonham says that there are no plans for the Led Zeppelin reunion to continue beyond last week's show in London. The drummer admits that if they wanted him to fill in again for his late father John, "I would love to do it. And if they'd love to do it, I would be there. But that's something that they have to decide, cause it was only ever decided to do one show." As for a much-talked about D-V-D of the show Bonham says it's up to Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones to decide if it's good enough to release. Bonham says that he is one of the millions of fans who watched clips of the show on the Internet. "I kind of watch it back on You Tube to see if it really was okay. And so far, so good."

Graham Nash revealed last night that his C-S-N-Y bandmate Stephen Stills has prostate cancer and is planning to have surgery on January 3rd, which is Stills' 63rd birthday. Nash was on Larry King Live along with Joe Walsh as part of a tribute to Dan Fogelberg, the singer-songwriter who died Sunday from prostate cancer at the age of 56. Nash said, "Unlike Danny, who left it too long to be seriously checked, Stephen's found his at an early stage."

John Mellencamp has picked The Company We Keep as the title of his next album. He and his band played five songs from the disc -- "A Ride Back Home," "Young Without Lovers," "If I Die Sudden," "Jena" and "Troubled Land" -- on the tour that ended Saturday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The disc was produced by T-Bone Burnett at Mellencamp's home studio in Belmont, Indiana. There's no release date set, but more than likely it will be out after Mellencamp is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10th.

According to the Billboard Boxscore, The Police's reunion tour was the highest grossing tour of 2007. As of November 13th they had sold one-point-eight-million tickets and grossed 212-million dollars -- figures that will change. The Genesis reunion tour placed second with 129-million, followed by Justin Timberlake at 127-million. Rounding out the Top 10 are Kenny Chesney (71.2-million), Rod Stewart (70-million), Cirque Du Soleil's Delirium (59.4-million), Roger Waters (53.2-million), Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (52.3-million), Christina Aguilera (48.1-million) and Rascal Flatts (41.6-million). Gross concert dollars were down a little over 10-percent in 2007 after a record year in 2006. Attendance was down 19 percent to 51-million. Of course, this is all PRE-HANNNAH MONTANA. (cough)

Ringo Starr insists that The Beatles never forgot their Liverpool roots nor let their hometown down -- even though they eventually settled in London. He tells the Liverpool Echo, "When we left they all called us traitors. We only left because we had to go where the jobs were, and in those days it was London. Now you can live in Liverpool, Leicester [pr: LIE-stir], it doesn't matter where you live, but at the time people were shouting 'traitors, you left us.'" But I think no matter what -- and we're still loved in Liverpool -- that even though we left, we never let Liverpool down and we're always still proud of that heritage." The iconic drummer says he's eager to take part in the city's celebration as Europe's Capital of Culture for 2008. Though Ringo's appearance, to debut his new C-D Liverpool Eight, will be the first time he's performed in Liverpool for 15 years, he's visited his hometown several times in those years. "I've popped up to see the family a couple of times, but I'm not there a lot now. I went walking around once. I took my son to see Madryn Street and Admiral Grove, and all the places Daddy grew up, and some woman just linked arms with me saying 'ooh, it hasn't changed'. I said, 'It's really changed actually. Where's this, and where's that gone?'"

Kansas wrapped up their 2007 tour Friday night in Duluth, Georgia, and they have started to roll out dates for 2008. Their first four shows -- in January and February -- will have them accompanied by symphony orchestras. As of now they have scattered dates through August with more to come.

Van Halen have done no interviews since the press conference announcing their tour last summer. But Alex Van Halen has broken the silence for a story in Modern Drummer magazine, which will on newsstands February 5th. Van Halen is in Anaheim, California tomorrow night and Thursday.

Anthrax has chosen Dan Nelson, a part-time singer and personal trainer from Levittown, New York, as their new singer.
