Tuesday Rock Roundup

Dave Davies continues to insist that the original Kinks line-up will not be reuniting this year, despite the wishes of his older brother, singer-guitarist Ray Davies. He cites the stroke he suffered more than three years ago as one of the factors prohibiting him from being part of any reunion. "Having a stroke was a life-changing experience," says Dave, who has not spoken to Ray in more than six months. "Not only hasn't a tour been planned, it hasn't even been discussed. I am focused on my solo career right now, and that's all I'm concerned with at the moment." Dave hopes to tour on his own next year. He is also working on a DVD film series tracing his life and spiritual journey. Part one of Mystical Journey will be released later this year. The last time the Kinks toured was in 1996. Ray Davies will release his second studio album, Working Man's Cafe, on February 19th.

Jimi Hendrix will be the subject of two exhibits at the Experience Music Project in his hometown of Seattle. The museum, named after the Hendrix album Are You Experienced, will unveil Message to Love on January 26th. Two of his guitars will be on display, and visitors will be able to write their thoughts and comments about Hendrix on the gallery's slate walls. The second exhibit, An Evolution of Sound, will open on April 26th and focus on the visitor experience and how Hendrix indelibly affected popular music with his unique talents and innovative sound. The first exhibit will run through April 6th, and the second until February 2010.

One of last year's most successful tours was Def Leppard and Styx (with Foreigner on a number of dates). The two bands will get together again this year, along with REO Speedwagon, for arena and amphitheater dates starting in late March. There will be 20 dates on the first North American leg before Leppard heads over to Europe in May. The shows include an April 18th date in Grand Rapids.

The Scorpions will release a new concert DVD today. Live at Wacken Open Air 2006: A Night to Remember -- A Journey Through Time was filmed in front of 60-thousand people at the annual German heavy-metal festival. The German band runs through 26 songs, and along the way they are joined by three former members -- guitarists Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth, and drummer Herman Rarebell. The Scorpions plan to tour the U-S later this year.

Doors guitarist Robby Krieger, the principal writer of "Light My Fire," turns 62 today. He says he began writing the song when Jim Morrison suggested they needed more original material. But each of his bandmates had some influence in shaping it into the classic it became. Also, David Robert Jones...better known as David Bowie...is 61. This was also Elvis Presley's birthday. Or is, if he's really working at that Burger King in Kalamazoo, MI.

Steve Miller plans to tour in 2008 with dates to be announced soon.
