Tuesday Rock Roundup

Roger Waters has been working intermittently on new material, but what form it will take is still up in the air. He says, "I've got a bunch of songs, and when I get some time something will develop... It might be that it's two albums; it might be one political album, and it might be one album that's about love. Or they might be connected. I just don't know." Waters is also working on a movie about his 2007 Dark Side of the Moon tour, which he says is "beginning to look quite interesting."

Instead of announcing a full tour, the Eagles are announcing scattered dates for their outing in support of Long Road Out of Eden. Don Henley tells us, "This summer we're gonna tour every other month, and we'll do that on and off for two years probably because that's how long it will take us to do the globe at that rate."

An early draft of the lyrics for Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road" is being auctioned online by R-and-R Enterprises. The lyrics, neither dated nor signed by Springsteen, are written in ballpoint on the first three pages of a three-by-five spiral notebook. Titled "Run Till Morning" in this early version, the song was renamed "Wings for Wheels" and "Glory Road" before landing on the Born to Run album as "Thunder Road." The bidding, which ends on May 14th, was up to 12-hundred dollars yesterday.

Imagine Mick Jagger, not Malcolm McDowell, starring in the movie A Clockwork Orange -- with a score by The Beatles instead of synthesizer pioneer Wendy Carlos. The Telegraph of London quotes a 1968 letter from executive producer Si Litvinoff to John Schlesinger, then a contender to direct it, regarding the interest those rock luminaries had in the adaptation of the Anthony Burgess novel. It reads, "This film should break ground in its language, cinematic style and soundtrack...the Beatles love the project and Mick Jagger and David Hemmings have both been keen to play 'Alex.' After you've read the script and novel, I'm sure you will see the incredible potential we all see in this project." But the best-laid plans don't always come off as intended. Stanley Kubrick directed A Clockwork Orange with McDowell in the lead. Jagger instead wound up starring in the movie Performance, while the Beatles never scored another film after Yellow Submarine, which debuted in '68.

Eddie Money is the latest artist to launch his own line of wine. He has teamed up with De La Montanya Winery to produce Wanna Go Back, a 2005 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. 100-percent of the proceeds from the sale of the wine will go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. You can purchase the wine through Money's website, Eddie Money-dot-com. Other artists with their own wine include Bob Dylan, Mick Fleetwood, Jerry Garcia, The Rolling Stones, KISS, The Doobie Brothers and John Lodge of the Moody Blues.

Elton John's longtime guitarist Davey Johnstone turns 57 today.
