Tuesday Rock Roundup

Bob Dylan has his first number-one album in the U-K in 39 years. His new one, Together Through Life, is his first chart-topper since New Morning in 1970, setting a record for the longest gap between solo number-one albums. The album is also expected to debut at number-one here when SoundScan figures are released tomorrow. If it does, it will be his fifth number-one album and his second in a row.

Slash will appear on American Idol this week as a mentor for the show's "Rock Week." Slash will also perform live on Wednesday night's show with a band that includes former Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney.

Ozzy Osbourne tells B-B-C Radio Two that he was "stoned the whole time" he and his family filmed their Osbournes MTV reality show. He says, "When the filming ended, I'd go in my little bunker and smoke a pipe and drink about a case of beer every day. I'd give myself some goodness and get up early in the morning and go jogging for six miles." His wife Sharon adds, "He wasn't sober for one day." The couple also revealed that one of their favorite songs is Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight," which Ozzy says contains the best drum fill ever.

Some of the artists who played at the original Woodstock festival have announced plans for a 40th anniversary show at the amphitheater on the field where history was made. Jefferson Starship (whose lineup still includes Paul Kantner) will be joined by Levon Helm (of The Band), Country Joe McDonald, Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis Joplin's band), Ten Years After, Canned Heat and Mountain for the August 15th show at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, New York. It was 40 years ago this summer that the dairy farm hosted 400-thousand fans rain-soaked fans at the rock era's most famous festival.

Def Leppard will celebrate a Two-For-Tuesday in June. The band will release deluxe editions of their Pyromania and Adrenalize albums on June 23rd. Both albums have been re-mastered with Pyromania containing a disc of a previously unreleased 15-track show from The Forum in Los Angeles in 1983. The bonus disc for Adrenalize contains live and acoustic tracks as well as demos.
