Tuesday Rock Roundup

Bruce Springsteen has said he was writing songs for a new album with the E Street Band. Now, Backstreets, the Springsteen fanzine, says recording may have commenced at his home studio in Colts Neck, New Jersey. A spokeswoman for Springsteen was unavailable for comment. His last studio album with the E Street Band was 2002's The Rising.

Reports in London's News of the World that Paul McCartney has agreed to a settlement in his divorce from Heather Mills are not true, according to her lawyers. The paper said Macca agreed to give Mills 63-million dollars and his homes in London and Beverly Hills, California. But a lawyer for Mills says, "There has been no offer made whatsoever at any time to our client, and therefore no settlement has been agreed." Macca and Mills split last May after nearly four years of marriage. They have a three-year old-daughter, Beatrice.

Perez Hilton dot com reported over the weekend that The Police are rumored to be playing their first reunion show at the Coachella music festival near Palm Springs, California, this fall. There have been a number of hints, most notably the use of "Roxanne" as the password for the Coachella Ticketmaster ticket presale. Perez added: "Yeee haw! This has been a long time coming!"

The latest Police reunion rumor has the trio opening the Grammy Awards on February 11th in Los Angeles. A spokeswoman for Sting confirms that there will be two releases in conjunction with the band's 30th anniversary -- The Police Around the World, originally released on video in 1981, will be reissued on D-V-D. And a second box set, Message in a Box Volume Two, will include tracks not featured on the first box. Still no word on when each will be released.

Ozzy Osbourne says his new album will be much better than his last studio album, Down to Earth. He called his last record "just a filler album" in a recent interview with Revolver Magazine. Guitarist Zakk Wylde says this new album is raw and heavy. "We just went in and jammed out the riffs, just like how they made Back in Black and all the Black Sabbath records. I don't need Bob Rock there to tell me what to do, like that 'Vagina Monologues' band Metallica. When you know where you're going, you don't need to ask for directions!"

Ringo Starr appeared in animated form in the 1968 Beatles film Yellow Submarine and he'll return to the cartoon scene later this year in a new film from "Spider-Man" co-creator Stan Lee. Ringo will voice a character based on he himself, and make some new music for the film. Stan Lee tells T-V Guide, "The world doesn't know that Ringo's a great adventurer who has saved civilization many times. They will learn that when they see our little D-V-D." The film, titled Ringo, is due out by the end of the year. I must have this.
