Tommie's short review of the new Paul McCartney album

It hits stores next week, but I got a sneak peek at it today. If you're already a Macca fan, you're in for a treat because it's a solid outting for the old boy. Very introspective, a couple love letters to Linda on it. Also features a couple anti-love letters to Heather. Heh.
The opener, "Dance Tonight", actually sounds kinda like a George Harrison song, interestingly enough. Very "Give Me Love". And "You Tell Me" stabs you in the middle of the chest.
It's in stores a week from today. If you ever liked The Beatles, go buy it. If for no other reason, to prove that a brand new record label can make a strong first impression. Even if it's owned and operated by a freaking coffee giant.
This is excellent McCartney. He's still got plenty to say, not sounding like a classic artist just going through the motions in the studio, although there are a couple weak spots on the second half (the very very very very very's in "Feet In The Clouds" leap to mind). I kind of got the doing it just to do it feeling from On An Island by Gilmour (though I dug the title track). Not getting it here at all. But caveat emptor: I was a big fan of Pipes Of Peace, which most Mac fans loathed.
In the song "End Of The End", Paul has written his own elegy. Listening to it for the first time, I realized what I was going to play first on the day he passes on.
