Tuesday Rock Roundup

Starting today The Police will auction off front-row seats to all of their North American shows. The auction will be held on [Ticketmaster.com] and all of the proceeds will go to WaterAid, a non-profit whose goal is to improve water conditions in the poorest countries. The auction gets under way at 10:00 a-m and runs through May 11th. The Police start their tour on May 28th in Vancouver, Canada.

Genesis is hunkered down in a school in Vaud, a tiny town in Switzerland, where Phil Collins lives. They are rehearsing for their Turn It on Again tour this summer and fall -- their first in 15 years. Guitarist Mike Rutherford tells a local paper, "Swiss people are quiet, nobody has disturbed us." They hit the road June 11th in Finland.

Poison will be on the road again this summer. The Poison'd tour, with special guests Ratt and White Lion, hits more than 50 cities starting on June 13th in Greenville, South Carolina and running through September 1st in Florida. The tour is in support of their covers album, Poison'd, in stores June 5th. Among the songs they cover are David Bowie's "Suffragette City," The Cars' "You're Just What I Needed," the Marshall Tucker Band's "Can't You See," and The Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers."

Former Styx singer-keyboard player Dennis DeYoung was dealt a setback in recording his new album when his engineer, Phil Bonanno, died suddenly last week.

The Who's 1965 song "My Generation" is reaching yet another generation -- senior citizens. The Zimmers, a group of British seniors with a combined age of more than three-thousand years, have recorded the song for a B-B-C documentary series on the isolation of the elderly in Britain. The video of the song, which was recorded Abbey Road Studios, is developing a cult following, and is already a hit on You Tube and other online video sites. The song is sung by 90-year old Alfie Carretta, who, at the beginning of the session, says, "This is the first time I've done this." Profits from the single will go to Age Concern, an organization that works with Britain's elderly.

A 1988 Porsche 9-28 that was once owned by Paul Stanley of KISS is for sale...in Sioux Falls, Iowa. Through a series of deals, the car has ended up at dealer Mark Juhl's Auto Sports. The garage-stored black car is loaded and in pristine condition. It has an automatic transmission and there are 63-thousand miles on it. The asking price is just under 20-thousand dollars. You can see pictures and get more details online at Juhl's website.

Paul McCartney has set June 5th as the release date of his new album, Memory Almost Full. The album is his first for Starbucks Hear Music label. It will be available at all Starbucks locations, as well as traditional retail outlets. It will also be his first album digitally released.

Courtney Love has decided to part ways with all things Kurt Cobain. She's announced that she'll auction off most of her late husband's belongings, including his flannel shirts and pajamas. Their daughter, Frances Bean, will keep a sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to "Smells Like Teen Spirit." The rest will go under the gavel at Christie's in New York. No date has been set for the auction.

Steven Tyler was at the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas Friday for the unveiling of a new Aerosmith display case. Tyler personally selected the items for the exhibit -- which includes a stage outfit and video of him performing in it, a collection of feminine undergarments that he's collected from stages over the years, and a shirt given to him by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. The band was in Vegas to play a benefit concert Saturday for the Lili Claire Foundation.

Metallica singer James Hetfield attended a lecture by the Dalai Lama Sunday in San Francisco.

Alice Cooper has started to roll out U-S dates for his Psycho-Drama world tour, which starts later this month in South America. He has announced Midwest dates in August and September. Nothing for Indiana has been announced yet, but it's early.

Rush will finally release their new album Snakes and Arrows today. Guitarist Alex Lifeson tells us they took a "very casual approach" to the writing and recording of it, and as a result, their "whole demeanor was uplifted, and we were very happy and really looked forward to working." Snakes and Arrows is the band's 18th studio album and their first since Vapor Trails in 2002. In 2004 they released Feedback, an eight-song E-P of cover tunes. Rush will tour behind the album starting June 13th in Atlanta.
