Fifty Years Ago Today

On October 4th, 1957, the Space Race got serious when the Soviets put up a silver beach ball with some antennae attached to it. Sputnik usherd in a whole new world, new possibilities, and became the catalyst for a ton of advancements the entire world benefits from today.

Whether you support the idea of space exploration or not, you have to admit, it's a pretty frickin' cool thing that we've been able to cruise out of our sky for half a century now...
