Hagar Pisses Off St. Louis

Sammy Hagar is from Northern California, but he is revered in St. Louis. But he may have turned a few fans off during his two-night run there earlier this week. During both shows, Hagar cracked open a Miller beer and said, "It's Miller time." St. Louis is the headquarters for Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser, Michelob and other brands), and his comments did not go over well, with members of his audience booing. Hagar, who is in the alcohol business with his Cabo Wabo Tequila, explained that he approached Anheuser-Busch with the idea for a beer with a taste of tequila in it, but they passed and developed a similar beer, Landshark, with Jimmy Buffett, who also has his own line of tequila. Now, Hagar says, he has a deal in development with Miller. One fan at the concert reported that Hagar's comments "sucked the air out the room," so much so that he apologized, saying, "I know St. Louis fans know me and know that I would never purposely want to upset anyone in my town of St. Louis! I appreciate all of you." Hagar is scheduled to play at Busch Stadium in St. Louis next summer, but he didn't win much support when he called it Miller Stadium. Hagar winds down this leg of his tour with shows tonight in Kansas City, Missouri, and tomorrow in Sioux City, Iowa.
