Unusual Anniversary Today

On this date in 1979, Air New Zealand Flight 901 went down.

What makes this significant is that it was the first commercial sightseeing plane crash (and thankfully the only one so far) on Antarctica.

Seems ironic that just a week ago a cruise ship doing the same thing sank off the Antarctic Coast.
