Tuesday Rock Roundup

Iconic singer and songwriter Neil Young has had an honor bestowed upon him that is not received by many musicians...his own spider. An East Carolina University biologist, Jason Bond, discovered a new species of trapdoor spider and opted to call the arachnid after his favorite musician, Canadian Neil Young, naming it Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi. "There are rather strict rules about how you name new species," Bond said in a statement. "As long as these rules are followed you can give a new species just about any name you please. With regards to Neil Young, I really enjoy his music and have had a great appreciation of him as an activist for peace and justice."
John Mellencamp has signed on with the Starbucks-affiliated Hear Music label and will release his new album, Life, Death, Love and Freedom, at Starbucks and traditional music retailers on July 15th.
Elton John once again said he is done making albums. The latest statement came the other night while he was performing in Austria. He told his audience, "I don't know if I'm ever going to make another record again at the moment. I have no plans to do another album as such."
Zak Starkey, the son of Ringo Starr, has quit his job as the drummer for Oasis. The London Sun reports that Starkey had a falling out with guitarist Noel Gallagher and won't be touring with Oasis when they hit the road later this summer. Starkey still has his other job -- as the drummer for The Who...an actual GOOD band...
Bryan Adams has a new album out today, and like the Eagles, he's releasing it exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club outlets. He says the decision to release 11 through the retail giant was easy. "It made a lot of sense because we don't have the infrastructure of Sony music, so it's great to have somebody like that behind you." As for the title, he says it's his eleventh album of all original material and there are 11 songs on it. Adams is promoting the album with his first-ever U-S acoustic tour, which stops in Memphis tonight.
