Tuesday Rock Roundup

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band brought their Magic tour to a close Saturday night at Harley-Davidson's 105th anniversary celebration in Milwaukee. The 31-song set featured two more tour premieres, and Springsteen, a Harley rider, made sure to include a few motorcycle-themed songs. He opened with "Gypsy Biker" and the two premieres were both covers -- Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs' "Wooly Bully," and the final song of the night, and the unofficial motorcycle rider's anthem, Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild."

Sammy Hagar has posted the video to the title track of his forthcoming album, Cosmic Universal Fashion, on YouTube, and it picks up where the video for Van Halen's "Right Now" left off. Like that video, this one has many "right now" phrases superimposed over images. Among them -- "Right now someone is pretending to be someone else in a chat room"; "Right now you wish your car ran on water"; and "Right now lunch is becoming a luxury." Hagar's former Van Halen bass player Michael Anthony is seen in the video, and at one point it says, "Right now Mike is still thinking about a solo project." Hagar's playing a Republican convention event in St. Paul tomorrow.

Van Halen are upset that Republican presidential candidate John McCain used their 1991 song "Right Now" at the Ohio rally Friday where he introduced his running mate, Alaska governor Sarah Palin. The band's management issued a statement saying, "Permission was not sought or granted nor would it have been given." George W. Bush also used "Right Now" during his 2004 re-election campaign. The song's lyricist was Sammy Hagar and he, of course, doesn't mind at all. He says he wouldn't have minded if Obama used it either.

The original artwork of the lips and tongue symbol that became the iconic logo for the Rolling Stones has been bought by London's Victoria and Albert Museum for 92-thousand-500 dollars. Artist John Pasche was originally paid 50 pounds British (about 120 dollars at the time) for coming up with the design, which was first used on the Stones' Sticky Fingers album in 1971.

At least one former member of Guns n' Roses is happy that blogger Kevin Cogill was arrested last week and charged with a felony for posting tracks from the oft-delayed Chinese Democracy on his site. Slash, who has said in the past he looks forward to hearing what Axl Rose and his hired hands have come up with, tells the L-A Times that he hopes Cogill "rots in jail. It's going to affect the sales of the record, and it's not fair. The Internet is what it is, and you have to deal with it accordingly, but I think if someone goes and steals something, it's theft." Cogill faces up to three years in prison and 250-thousand dollars in fines if convicted.

Boston wrapped up their first tour since the 2007 death of their singer Brad Delp Sunday in Puerto Rico. A post on the band's website says, "Although it will be great to get back to our families and catch up on some much needed rest, we all regret that this has to come to an end." For singer Tommy DeCarlo and drummer Jeff Neal, they're not only going back to their families, but also to their day jobs. DeCarlo, who joined up for this tour after guitarist Tom Scholz heard a tape of him, goes back to his job at the Home Depot in Charlotte, North Carolina. Neal teaches 10th grade history in Standish, Maine. Scholz will go back to working on a new Boston greatest hits album.

The ever-expanding line of KISS cash cows now includes something that might taste great on real cows -- KISS ketchup. To celebrate the second anniversary of the band's KISS coffeehouse, they've introduced KISS brand Hotter Than Hell ketchup, which will retail for eight bucks a bottle. Guitarist Tommy Thayer will be on hand for the condiment's official unveiling in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday.
