Tuesday Rock Roundup
Van Halen have made it official. They will reunite with original singer David Lee Roth for 40 shows this summer, their first with Roth since 1984. Asked about the tour, Sammy Hagar says "That's gonna be a hard one to pull off, but I think that's inevitable that that should happen. I think they owe it to the fans to do it." As for them moving on with Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang on bass instead of original member Michael Anthony, Hagar said, "I think that's a disaster." Hagar plans to be on hand next month for the Hall of Fame ceremony. Dates will be announced soon.
Since word got out that The Police were rehearsing in Vancouver for their appearance Sunday on the Grammy Awards and worldwide reunion tour...reporters, photographers and fans have been on the lookout for the band. According to reports, the group has changed hotels twice and security around them is tight. The band will be in L-A this week to continue rehearsals for their opening slot Sunday on the Grammy Awards, 8:00 p-m on C-B-S
David Gilmour is putting together a high-definition concert D-V-D from last year's tour in support of his album, On an Island. The two-disc Remember That Night set contains a disc of footage from his concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall, and a second disc with three documentaries and other goodies, including extra tracks. There is no release date, but it will be out this year
Eric Clapton's camp would not confirm reports that he's planning a second Crossroads Guitar Festival, this time in Chicago on July 28th. Clapton is on tour in Australia with shows in Brisbane tomorrow night and Wednesday. He threatened to boycott a show in New Zealand last month when he discovered that the winery where he was playing had produced a special edition wine bearing his name. Clapton, a recovering alcoholic, was not pleased. Mission Estate Winery chief executive Peter Holley tells Hawke's Bay Today, "On legal advice, we elected not to make the wine available for sale... The matter has been resolved to everyone's satisfaction."
A group of John Lennon fans have started a petition asking people to boycott the upcoming movie about his assassination, Chapter 27. So far more than two-thousand people have signed the online petition at BoycottChapter27.org.
Don Henley continues to be hopeful that the Eagles will release their long overdue studio album before the summer. He tells Billboard about the sessions, saying, "Some days it feels good. Some days it's challenging. It's exhilarating. It's worrisome. It's joyous... It always has been. It's no different from what it ever is. It's just that there are more distractions now with families and charities and lawsuits."
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are making a so-called "groundbreaking, historic announcement" about Ozzfest today at the Concert Industry Consortium in Los Angeles. Rumors about this year's festival are picking up steam, including scaling it back to arenas, with only five acts on the bill besides Ozzy.
