Tuesday Rock Roundup

Keith Richards walked the red carpet at Disneyland in Anaheim on Saturday for the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. He of course plays Captain Teague Sparrow, the father to Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. The Rolling Stones guitarist said, "I feel like I'm on a sort of flashback acid trip," as he took in the over-the-top Disney atmosphere. Both Depp and Richards are on the cover of the new Rolling Stone.

A Rolling Stones fan sent a letter to Keith Richards asking for a nearly two-million-dollar donation to help save the late Carl Perkin's Suedes restaurant in Jackson, Tennessee, which is currently closed. Only problem is the letter was sent to Keith Richards of Wales, who died nine years ago.

Bob Geldof of Live Aid/Live 8 fame is not the only artist who has criticized Al Gore's Live Earth concerts, which will take place July 7th in cities around the world. Roger Daltrey is quoted in the U-K tabloids as saying, "The last thing the planet needs is a rock concert." This coming from the man who's had almost as many farewell tours as the Rolling Stones. His bandmate Pete Townshend writes on his website that he has read 150 books in the last 18 months, adding that "many of them were crime novels."

Pattie Boyd, the ex-wife of both George Harrison and Eric Clapton, and former sister-in-law of Mick Fleetwood, will publish her autobiography Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me on August 28th. Boyd has always remained out of the limelight and, beside Cynthia Lennon, she is the closest member of the Beatles family to write a book.

Documents released last week reveal that the late Syd Barrett left behind a sizeable estate. The Pink Floyd singer, who left the music business in the early '70s because of psychological problems, left behind three-point-three-million dollars -- which was split between his two brothers and two sisters. An auction of his belongings brought in 100-thousand dollars last year, and his home in Cambridge, England brought in another 600-thousand. Barrett, 60, died last July from diabetes.

Alice Cooper had planned to record and release an album this year but does not have time because of his tour, which starts next week in South America. He says all the songs are written and he's thinking it may turn into a double album -- "part concept and the other part not concept." Cooper's last album was 2005's Dirty Diamonds.

Bernie Taupin, who writes the lyrics for Elton John's melodies, turns 57 today. He says that Elton developed his flamboyant on-stage persona to stand out from his chart rivals.

Gene Simmons will be part of the Indianapolis 500 parade Saturday in downtown Indianapolis.
