Tuesday Rock Roundup

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2007. Van Halen, R-E-M and Patti Smith are going in, joined by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and The Ronettes. To be eligible for induction, artists have to release their first single or album at least 25 years before the year of nomination. This year's ceremony will take place on March 12th in New York. It'll be interesting to see what form Van Halen takes, considering how Sammy and Michael are on the Eddie Hate List. The band's third singer, Gary Cherone, is not being inducted...in a rare move by the Hall that makes sense.

Diamond Dave on the old days: "Van Halen when I was quarterbacking, the classic days, was a dynasty and that music, classic V-H and stuff like this, it's part of you. It's every bit as much a part of you as 'happy birthday to you.'"

Speaking of VH, According to Eddie Van Halen's girlfriend-slash-new publicist, Van Halen will tour this summer. But who the singer will be is the million-dollar question. Eddie says the ball is in David Lee Roth's court if he wants to return to the band yet again. Eddie and his brother Alex have been rehearsing with Eddie's 15-year old son, Wolfgang, on bass.

The D-V-D version of the 2006 film The U-S Versus John Lennon will be released on February 13th. The documentary focuses on the Nixon administration's attempt to deport the former Beatle from America during the run-up to the 1972 election. David Leaf, who co-directed with John Scheinfeld, says the filmmakers attempted to have Lennon himself essentially serve as the narrator through "a lot of visual and musical material [that's] never been heard or seen before."

Roger Daltrey tells us his plans for a Keith Moon bio-pic are moving ahead. "We're still trying to polish up a script. It's looking very promising for a green light, but it's, you know, like all films. There's no point in shooting one frame of film if the script's no good. And I don't want to just make a bio-pic of Keith Moon. It would end up carry-on Keith and I don't want to do that." Mike Myers is set to portray the late Who drummer. Co-producer Nigel Sinclair says, "Roger's dream was to have Mike as the creative force to pull the project together." If all goes according to plan, the film, See Me, Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked for Your Pleasure, will premiere in 2009. Also, Pete Townshend says Endless Wire is not The Who's last album. On his website [PeteTownshend.co.uk] he writes, "Roger Daltrey and I have found a way to work together now, and we will not let it go... I have some ideas for a new record. We need to finish this tour first. It ends in Denmark in July." The Who's next North American leg starts February 23rd in Reno, Nevada.

11 years after their last one, R-E-O Speedwagon are back to work on a new album. Singer Kevin Cronin says that now that the tour is over, they're mixing the last four songs and "discussing video ideas for the first single." They plan to announce the release date shortly. R-E-O Speedwagon's last studio album was 1996's Building the Bridge.
